About
A fourteen-attorney firm that still sits the closing.
Founded in Charlotte in 2003. A second office in Raleigh since 2009. Two practices. One standard.
The firm
Founded over a closing table in 2003.
Margaret Harrow and James Vale left a sixty-lawyer firm because the residential file kept getting handed to whoever was free on Friday. They opened two rooms on Tryon Street and took only the work they would sign their names to: real estate and contracts.
Twenty-three years later the firm has fourteen attorneys and a second office in Raleigh. The rule has not changed. We do not open a third practice. We do not bury a junior in a file the client has never met. We quote the fee, do the work, and pick up the phone.
Plain English
If a clause cannot be explained at a kitchen table, we rewrite it. Our letters read like letters, not pleadings.
One number
Closings and reviews are flat fees. When a matter is hourly, the estimate arrives before the first billable minute.
The attorney you hired
Partners still sit closings. The name on the engagement letter is the name that answers the phone.
Community
Pro bono is on the timesheet, not a brochure.
Every attorney gives fifty hours a year to Legal Aid of North Carolina, the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, and first-time buyers in the city’s down-payment programs. We also hold free lease clinics at the Raleigh public library each spring. The hours are tracked. The work is real files, not a logo on a gala program.
